Appleton Road Associates is a Canadian based management consulting firm founded by Terry Cairns.
Terry Cairns is a business professional with over 35 years experience in information technology. He has worked in several industries including national defence, computers, banking, high technology and life sciences/healthcare. He recently retired from Canadian Blood Services where he was Chief Information Officer at Canadian Blood Services for six years. His responsibilities included the strategic direction and operational performance of information technology in the only nationally accredited healthcare organization in Canada, an organization of over 4700 staff and 17,000 volunteers
Prior to joining Canadian Blood Services Terry spent 7 years in various positions at MDS Inc., a world leader in the life sciences industry. These include Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer and before that Vice-President and Chief Information Officer at MDS Nordion, a division of MDS.
Prior to joining MDS in 1998, Terry worked at Newbridge Networks, where over a period of ten years he occupied progressively more senior roles within the Information Technology organization. In his final position with Newbridge, Terry was Vice-President, Corporate Information Technology. He assisted in growing Newbridge from being a $67M company to the $2B organization it became before it’s sale to Alcatel International. He has also held senior positions at National Trust and Unisys.
Terry, who studied electronics and computer sciences while in the Canadian Armed Forces and throughout his career, has been an advisor and board member of various technical and community organizations including OCRInet, Magora, OBEST, and the 2003 Rural Expo and International Plowing Match. He has also been on the board of various charities and not for profit organizations such as the Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre Foundation and the Lanark County Food Bank.
Terry is currently involved in activities that promote and advance improved healthcare through ICT (Information and Communications Technology) in the local, provincial and national community and has had several speaking engagements on this subject.
